What a sound enhancer can and can't do
- Soundsmith changes how audio sounds as it plays. It does not change files, streaming quality or the Bluetooth codec.
- It works with apps that share their audio session with sound effects, and offers a Compatibility mode for the rest. A few apps and phones do not allow effects at all.
- Boost is real gain in dB, held below clipping by a limiter. It cannot make a small speaker sound like a big one, and loud listening for long periods can damage hearing.
- To keep working while other apps play, Soundsmith runs a foreground service with a permanent notification while it is switched on. Turn it off from the app, the notification or the Quick Settings tile.
